Class 33s and Mainline Work at Yeovil Junction

Young Witches and Wizards boarded the Hogsweed Express as the Magic of Hogsweed School came to Yeovil Railway Centre.

Our most recent mainline steam visit came on 9th July, when the magnificent Merchant Navy Class locomotive 35028 Clan Line rolled into Yeovil Railway Centre as part of the "End of Southern Steam" tour.

On Saturday 30th May, a group of us from Yeovil Railway Centre packed up the Landy, headed out into the Somerset countrysideto exhibit at the Andersea Show 

Yeovil Railway Centre is currently undertaking a fascinating conversion project, transforming a Conflat wagon into a Parliamentary style third class passenger wagon, finished in blue. When complete, it will offer visitors a vivid and tangible glimpse into the very earliest days of passenger rail travel in Britain.

With the toilet block well established work continues across the site.

We have been most fortunate to have the loan of the name plate and plaque from West Country Class 34034 "Honiton".  This is now fitted on our visitors center wall. In time the screws will be painted over and the lit. 

Some of our volunteers have attended Abbey Hill weekend to promote YRC and show the work we do to keep our local rail history alive. In between the rain a great local weekend and we enjoyed meeting many of the public and exhibitors.

The overhaul of ‘Lord Fisher’ is progressing well. As reported last month the boiler and firebox have been sent to West Somerset Restorations at Williton. The overhaul team are continuing to progress the ‘In-house’ work.

Engine works progress on the Fowler 

Our little 48DS has been suffering from a gradual increase in oil level during use, time to investigate 

Cockney Rebel has always had a noisy air horn here we look at returning this to original specification. 

We are looking foward to see many of our regular members and volunteers throughout 2026. This year we welcome GSN who will be utalising some of our workshop facilities as part of Restoring Bulleid Merchant Navy 21c11 /35011 to original condition. We will be working on Lord Fishers 10 year overhall along with so many other projects across our site.
